The A-UM Project is a soundscape for an Imaginary Theater of the Mysteries. It is the story of the Hero’s journey found in countless wisdom traditions throughout time. The Mysteries was an ancient means for public initiation into a greater paradigm for the meaning of life that used theater, music, pageantry, egos, logos and pathos to facilitate fundamental personal transformation.

This project started as a collaboration between Betty Henderson, Glen Copeland and myself in 2011. Betty wanted to update an idea she had for a production she wrote in the 1990s and bring it into a new wider context with modern production possibilities. Collectively we met as a group, to vision what it would look, feel and sound like. Betty would rewrite the screenplay and Glen and I would write music to support the scenes within the play.

All of our lives became complicated and a year into the development and exploration of the concept, the project was abandoned. However the body of work generated through us still stands as a seminal display of great compositions in their own right. I decided to release this music apart from the production it was intended for because these compositions are representative of some of my best musical achievements to date.
